Galleria Barbara Mahler presents:
One-man show of the works of Davide Mancosu, March 2009
The reflection on Davide Mancosu probes the dehumanizing effects of vanity on
mankind. The works of this artist from Biella are
inhabited by characters that are now enslaved by the
obsessive desire to emerge and thus lose any and all
human connotations, becoming puppets, the victims
of the proliferation of designer and brand names, of
plastic surgery or the alienating power of television
and its monstrous media products.
Furthermore, vanity in Davide Mancosu’s works
shows its destructive and deforming aspect which,
through human beings, also invades the animal
world, removing it from the laws of nature and transforming
it into a farcical metaphor of the decadence
Ivana Falconi of contemporary society.
Coming in contact with the works of this artist from
Biella one realises how the roots of his behaviour can
be found in the experiences of Murakami - I consider
him the Italian heir- in the production of the Kai
Kai Kiki, the toy culture, street art and in the creative
experimentations of publicity and web graphics; on
the other hand it’s difficult to grasp the nuance that
gives his works that unique distinguishing quality.
